Learn how to make a stable vitamin C eye serum in seconds! Vitamin C can do wonders for the skin and especially the skin around the eyes. Vitamin C tightens, brightens, repairs and protects making it an essential part of any anti aging skincare regime. Adding hydrating and de puffing cucumber witch hazel and a special blend of essential oils will further the work of the vitamin C making this easy, little roll on your new best friend.
Since we have just learned that a stable, liquid form of Vitamin C exists and have already used it in a hyaluronic acid/vitamin C serum, it seems like a must to make a very simple eye treatment using vitamin C. Why do you need an extra product if you’re already using the HA/C serum? You really don’t so this post will be for those of you who didn’t make the serum but need a quick and effective targeted eye treatment.
What Does This Eye Treatment Do?
Vitamin C encourages collagen synthesis. Collagen is what youthful skin has an abundance of. Vitamin C encourages elasticity because of an increased amount of collagen. Vitamin C also brightens the skin and has been known to fade hyperpigmentation. What is really cool about vitamin C is that it is a scavenger of free radicals which are in our skin from stress, bad diets, pollution, allergens etc. Free radicals cause the skin to age prematurely so we need antioxidants to act as soldiers to fight free radicals. Vitamin C is a very effective and well proven anti aging tool. The skin around our eyes is delicate and often succumbs to age more quickly then the rest of the face so it is important to pay extra attention to that area.
I just love all of Thayer’s different witch hazels and since the area around the eyes tends to get puffy, I chose cucumber witch hazel to help de-puff and hydrate.
To add to the anti aging effects, I’ve included a blend of cypress and frankincense essential oils. Both have tightening effects and can encourage blood flow. I’ve also added lavender because due to my own experiences, it can cause drainage.

Ingredient Notes:
Why cucumber witch hazel and not a hyaluronic acid base? The hyaluronic acid powder that I have linked in all my hyaluronic acid recipes is a high molecular weight powder. This means that it will only superficially penetrate the skin. Its molecule is too large to go very deep. The skin around the eyes requires a smaller molecule. Plus, we’re not looking to hydrate or plump the eye area with this DIY product.
I use high molecular weight powder because it’s easy to find and gives an instant plumpness to the skin. A low molecular weight HA powder can possibly penetrate too deeply and cause inflammation in the skin. I’m unclear how low we can go before it’s too low so I prefer (for now) to stick with the high molecular weight. I explain this more in depth in my original hyaluronic acid serum recipe post.
Any type of witch hazel will work. The true star of this show is Vitamin C. I love the cucumber toner and it’s reminiscent of cucumber slices over the eyes but you can use any type you have on hand or prefer.
Essential oils can also be left out but I do recommend at least keeping one of them Frankincense or Cypress which are both quite good at tightening the skin. Frankincense is also good at repairing the skin at a cellular level so if you only pick one, make it Frankincense.
No preservative is needed because the witch hazel is well preserved. The essential oils will also help keep your roll on fresh. However, I do recommend using the roll on within 1-2 months of making it.
This is a great product candidate for a beauty fridge. Applying this cold will help reduce puffiness as well.
I love recipes like this one that are so incredibly simple but they by no means are pointless. This roll on has the potential to greatly improve the area around your eyes. It’s affordable to make and can be made in literally seconds. It’s a winner on every level!
